第14單元有put ... in prison這一短語（其中的in可換用into），意爲"把......關進監獄"，也常可用其被動式be put in / into prison, 表示"被關進監獄"，其中的prison指"坐牢；被監禁"這一活動（即一抽象概念），其前不必用任何冠詞。如：
The police put the leaders of the march in prison. 警察把這次遊行的領導人關進了監獄。
He was put into prison for damaging public property.他因破壞公共財產被監禁。
prison構成類似的介詞短語還有：be in prison"坐牢"（可表示持續一段時間）；go to prison"去坐牢"；send ... to / into prison"把......送/關進監獄"等。如：
The man has been in prison for no good reason for three years. 那個人無緣無故地坐了三年的牢。
She had killed her husband before she went to prison. 她在去坐牢前殺了自己的丈夫。
The old lady's son was sent to prison for the armed robbery. 老太太的兒子因武裝搶劫被監禁。
不過要注意：prison如果指某一個監獄或具體的監獄，其前可用a或the。如：
The girl was born in a prison and was brought up by the prisoners. 這位姑娘出生在監獄裏，是由囚犯們撫養大的。
A massive riot broke out in the prison. 那所監獄發生了大規模暴亂。
英語中還有不少類似prison的名詞。常見的有：school, college, university, hospital, bed, church, sea, town, home等。試比較：
My son is old enough to go to school. 我的兒子已經到了上學的年齡了。
I am going to the school to see my son's teacher. 我要到學校去見我兒子的老師。(兒子的學校)
The sick man was sent to hospital at once. 那個生病的人被立即送往醫院。
These boxes of medicine are to be sent to the hospital. 這些箱藥應該送到醫院。
We usually go to bed at nine o'clock. 我們通常九點鐘就寢。
Please lie down on the bed and let me examine you. 請躺到牀上，讓我來檢查。
When he woke up, the ship was at sea. 當他醒來時，船已經在海上了。
They are looking out toward the sea. 他們朝大海瞭望。
They are in church now. 他們在做禮拜。
They walked as far as the church. 他們一直走到教堂。
